One of my most enduring memories from my childhood is of our Saturday trips to "somewhere." On a Saturday morning, 6 of us (Mum, Dad, myself, my brother and 2 sisters) would all pile into our car and dad would just drive. He had no set destination he was heading to, he just drove. One day I remember we went south and ended up at Tauranga and Mt Maunganui. Another time we went north - that one was particularly exciting when we had no brakes going downhill in the dark!
Perhaps that's why I like doing the same - just getting in the car and heading out of Auckland. I've done it a few times lately and its good to see new things. It's also interesting driving roads where you're not sure where they'll take you!
That's fine for day trips or even over several days but it's not a good plan if we want to spend eternity with God in heaven. Jesus tells us there is only one way to get there - that's through him - John 14:6 "Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me."
To do that each of us need to ask God to forgive us for all the sin in our lives and to ask him to change us so that we only do what pleases him - in other words transform us so completely that we become Christlike.
This needs to be a conscious act by every person - we can't rely on being baptised as a baby or on going to church - we have to pray and seek his forgiveness, turn our lives over to him and hang on for the ride as he transforms us into his likeness.
Have you done this? I hope so? If not and you would like to, do it now - pray these words "
Dear God, Thank you for loving me and thank you Jesus that you died and took the punishment for my sins for the wrong things I have done. I am sorry for all the bad things I have done. Please forgive me. Jesus, come and live in me and change me so I only do what pleases you. Amen."
Now tell me so I and your fellow Christians
can support you in your new journey in Christ.
Blessings
Peter
